Tips for Traveling with a Pet

Having a pet around is one of the best things that life can offer you. Animals make great companions, and they give loads of unconditional loving that is incomparable. If you are an excellent pet owner, you might have thought about taking your pet with you for a holiday break.

Pet owners often take their pets with them on vacation trips. This is quite normal for many owners. However, this is also an event that requires proper preparation.

Here are some indispensable pet travel tips you can follow for a smooth and hassle-free trip with your furry friend.

  1. Firstly, you need to take into consideration your pet’s age before the trip. The pet might be too old to bring with you on longer journeys. In case your journey is going to take a while, it is wise that you do not bring your cat or dog along with you. Your pets might not be capable of dealing with the stress of traveling. The right thing to do for older pets is to bring them to a friend or a professional pet caretaker before you embark on a trip.
  2. If your pet is younger and in good health, you can take them along with you on your holiday trip. You have to guarantee though that the animal is sound enough to handle the stress of traveling. Take your pet to a veterinarian to make sure that they are ready to hit the road with you. The foremost thing you need to guarantee is that your pet should be healthy for traveling long distances and is in peak condition.
  3. In case you are going on a road trip, remember to always have a collar on hand for the pet. Make sure that the collar comes with your phone number and home address so that you can guarantee your pet’s safety easily. If the collar has the right contact details, you can be sure that your pet will be returned to you safely in case the animal gets lost during the trip.
  4. Pet owners need to guarantee that the crate or carrier which they are traveling with has a sufficient size and that the animal will be comfortable inside it. If you have to travel by plane, guarantee that the crate is approved by the airline first.
  5. Before taking your pet with you on vacation, make sure that they are groomed properly. Your dog’s claws must be clipped properly and that the fur is tidy and sheared. Correct grooming will make your pet satisfied and happy during the travel.

These are just some of the basics you need to remember if you want to take your pet with you on vacation. Travel through airlines can be strict so make sure that you understand and follow them. Furthermore, it is imperative that you ensure your pet’s health first before taking them on a trip. By following those suggestions above, you and your pet will have a good time on your journeys.

Advantages of Adopting Pets from Animal Shelters

Having pets around the house is a joyful experience because the love that these playful and lovable creatures give is boundless and unconditional. Getting a pet through a shelter is a compassionate decision that animal lovers can do. Apart from that, here are some of the benefits of taking a pet from a shelter on board.

  1. Pets from animal shelters are healthy and taken care of well

Majority of shelters provide cats and dogs there with vaccinations, make sure they have healthy diets and undergo neutering procedures before adoption. Thus, they are healthy, happy pets. The staff pays attention to the pet’s behavior in order to match them with the most suitable owner. By means of adoption, pets get another opportunity to be with excellent owners who will commit to loving and taking care of them.

  1. It will help you save money

Adopting pets from animal shelters cost less compared to buying from a breeder. You also need to deal with pet vaccines and neutering them. Shelters also give education for owners on how to take care of pets, introduce them to other pets, managing behavioral problems with your dog or cat and more. You get all the support free of charge.

  1. You can have nice company all the time

Pets for most of us are friends and family. The love they give is unconditional, and their actions put a smile on our faces. It is also reported that having a great pet around lowers blood pressure levels. Pets can also help people with depression and loneliness overcomes those conditions.

  1. You will not be tolerating pet stores or puppy mills

Puppy mills have gotten a bad rap for the right reasons. These unnecessary elements are more focused on getting profit and not the welfare of the dogs. This means dogs in these mills are given harsh treatment and often kept in poor living conditions. Pet stores get their dogs from these mills, and many people who purchase pets from them are not really aware that they are tolerating these terrible places. By adopting dogs and cats from shelters, you are guaranteed that these pets came from a place that takes care of them.

  1. You are rescuing and saving lives

We tend to overlook the fact that majority of animals who wind up in animal shelters are good pets that were neglected by their owners, or that the owners need to deal with overwhelming difficulties that make keeping them impractical. The incidents differ significantly however you need to remember that pets that were rescued are delightful, loving animals that are deserving of your love, care, and attention. They deserve the chance to live happily and be loved just like any other pet.

It will take a bit of patience and expertise to deal with your new pets, but with support from the shelter, you and your pet will have a wonderful time together in the end. Cats and dogs from animal shelters will give you the unconditional love that cannot compare.

If you have younger children in your home, you should never ever bring turtles, amphibians, or baby chicks in your home. Small children will definitely pick these cute and adorable critters, but the problem is that such species shed salmonella bacteria, which can cause serious health issues, especially in small children, elderly people and those who suffer from chronic conditions.

Pet-to-person infections usually happen if you are bitten or scratched by any infected animal, or if you get in contact with an infected pet’s waste or their saliva. Cats and dogs carry a different kind of bacterial infections in their intestinal tracts, and their waste may also have parasites. If you have children in the home, it is very important to ensure that the cat’s litter box is kept away from them. Kids can put anything in their mouths anytime, so you need to be very careful.

Go for regular pet’s vaccinations which can keep your pet healthy all the time and also minimize the risk of an animal borne infection in your family. There are many benefits you can enjoy if you have pets, but you also need to know that there are some risks involved and right precautions should be taken at the right time.

In terms of convincing you to go for a walk, nobody can do a better job than a dog. Dogs are more into physical exercises if compared to cats or any other non-walking pets. Studies have revealed that people who have dogs shed the extra kilos quickly and are more active in comparison to the one who doesn’t have pets or walks a dog.

Along with the regular walks- no matters it’s raining or not- this adorable companion of yours also offers social lubrication. In other words, when you’re walking with your cutie, people have more chances to interact with you. Your pet will build a strong social circle. And some reports also suggested that neighborhoods, where people keep dogs, are considered to be safer and friendlier.

In case, if you don’t have the time or the stamina to keep a pet, there are different ways to enjoy the benefits of being around pets. Spending some time with your pet can benefit both you and the pet.

Here’s what you can do:-

  • You can ask for your neighbor’s pet, for instance, offer volunteering services to the animals.
  • Most of the pet shelter groups welcome the volunteers who want to adopt or keep a pet for some time.

Have fun with your best friend!

Always wanted a dog….

For the love of dogs

When I was about seven years old, I wanted a dog more than anything in the world. Just like any other kid in elementary school, I constantly bugged my parents about it. Despite growing up with a ton of animals back in Mexico, my dad refused to get me anything bigger than a goldfish. He was your typical dad – more rational than endearing when it came to my young hopes and dreams. My mom wasn’t too fond of dogs either, mainly because feeding it and taking it to the vet every other month things that she called “expensive”. So, while most of my friends were out enjoying their lives with their furry companions, I was left to toil without any pets of my own. I always remember going over to a friend’s house just to play with their dog.

Looking back on it now, it was a pretty lame of me to do that, but whatever – I was in first grade and its not like any of them cared. Half of them pulled the same thing when I got an Xbox. Sometimes, I’d pretend as if their pet was actually mine, and I’d secretly replace their name with something that I thought suited it better. I wholeheartedly convinced myself that the dogs I renamed responded better to me than their original owners, which turned out to lead to some pretty weird situations. Whenever I’d go with my friends to walk their dogs, I’d accidentally call the dog by whatever name I had come up with that day. This lead to some confused looks, which was totally understandable. Honestly, if someone renamed my dog, I’d be pretty confused too.

Finally getting my dog!

Anyway, I continued to do this weird pet-renaming thing for a while, right up until the end of 1st grade. I had gotten home after school and was slaving over some math problems when a friend of mine knocked on my door. I could see him through the window in my foyer, and he seemed visibly nervous. I figured that he just REALLY wanted to play outside, and that his 7 year-old anxiety was getting the best of him. Upon getting up to tell him to go back home, I saw a tail wagging behind him in the window. Instantly, my studies took a back seat – did my friend get a new dog? Is it a puppy? What’s its name? My walking speed went from zero to a respectable 4 miles per hour, and I ripped the door open.

Before my friend could say a word, the owner of the wagging tail – a large gray pit-bull – bolted straight past me and into my kitchen.

“What’s its name?” I asked, chasing after it. My parents weren’t home at the time, so I didn’t have too much to worry about. My other friends had brought their dogs in before.

“I have no idea,” my friend responded, “it’s not mine.” Apparently, the dog had followed him off of the street and into my house. Upon hearing this, I looked over to see that the dog had relieved itself all over my kitchen floor, and had started to bite sizable chunks from my couch.

All Different Types of Pets!

Aside from your typical dog or cat, there are many different kinds of options for the average American consumer. Lizards, guinea pigs, hamster, fish, birds, frogs, and even hedgehogs are available for purchase in most states. With this increased variability in household pets, many pet stores and breeders are looking to maximize their profits by offering a large selection of animals, including exotic species that most Americans have never even heard of before. Although there is a long list of animals that cannot be bought and sold, there is an even longer list of animals that are highly sought after in the household pet market.

Pet Shops

As an industry, pet shops and breeders must pay great attention to product differentiation – how much cuter, bigger, cooler, or healthier their animals are could mean the difference between success and bankruptcy. Stocking many different kinds of options will allow for the stores to better target segments that may have a larger concentration of millennials and X-Generation individuals. These demographics are younger, and therefore predisposed to want a pet that conforms to social trends. Individuals who were born in the baby boomer generation won’t adhere to social trends like this as much, preferring to own your standard dog or cat.

Unconventional Pet Additions

Unconventional pets have just started to enter the market. A popular example is the hedgehog. Although this cute animal has been available for purchase for a long time, its quantity demanded has just recently exploded due to tits online popularity and growing subculture. Many social media personalities from other industries now own hedgehogs, giving rise to its recent popularity. In order to capitalize on this trend, shops and breeders need to make sure that they can provide a great amount of quality hedgehogs, along with the necessary components used for care and maintenance. They also have to make sure the customer does not return the hedgehog by offering greater incentives to keep the pet after its purchase. Hedgehogs are nocturnal animals, and are difficult to train as pets. Without accompanying tools to train and/or handle the hedgehog, there is little incentive to keep it. Pet stores and breeders should pay attention to this variable while managing their inventories respective of other pets and products.

With this added inventory of actual hedgehogs comes the added inventory of hedgehog related products. These products include hedgehog food, cages, cage accessories, training guides, rodent balls, and others. Giving the customer a monetary incentive (alongside the practical incentives) to invest in these products will increase profit margin immensely. For example, offering a free hamster/rodent ball with the purchase of a hedgehog cage will help the consumer perceive a greater value than before. This higher perceived value may translate into more hedgehog product purchases in the future, and more reasons for the consumer to keep their hedgehog. Food can get very expensive, as hedgehogs eat a lot – having some sort of loyalty system with pet food can add to this value. With this strategy in mind, the hedgehog will undoubtedly prove to a very profitable product to pet stores and breeders alike.

Regular Pets

So, I may be biased because my favorite pet is dogs. I own a few dogs and my girlfriend’s favorite thing in the world to do is to go visit the new puppies at Palm Beach Puppies! She just loves it. But dogs needs are a lot different than hedgehog needs. A hedgehog only needs a small cage and it is happy. Depending on  the size of the dog, you need a large yard for them to run and frolic in and enjoy their life by getting lots of exercise. By the way, if you need one of the best fence companies West Palm Beach be sure to give my friends at fence builders a call. They took care of fencing my yard for my dogs and we are so happy with how it turned out. We can now let the dogs out at any time and not worry about them getting out! It makes it so convenient for us!

How Can Pets Ensure A Happier And Healthier Life?

We include them in our family photographs, make a special space for them where they can have a sound and peaceful sleep, share our deepest secrets with them and don’t go to office when they’re sick and need our attention. And no matter how much they annoy us sometimes, pets are one of the most integral part of the lives.

America is known as a nation of animal lovers. According to a recent survey by NATIONAL PET OWNERS, 2/3rds of the households in US have at least one pet, and if we calculate the numbers specifically it would end up with 71 million homes providing shelter to either furry, feathery or any other pet.

We do know how to take the best care of the pets, but do you know that pets also take special care of us? A research suggested that, if you have a pet then you will live a happier and healthy life. Along with the fact that pets love us unconditionally, studies have also shown that those pure bundle of joy can also minimize our stress levels, control the blood pressure, curb the stress, reduce your loneliness, keep you active and help you live longer.

Some of the surveys also suggested that children who are exposed to furry pets at a very early age have less chances of developing any kind of allergy. There are many surveys and reports which showed that pets are very good for our health, and they can be our best companion.

Researchers are now studying the different benefits a human being can enjoy when they’re surrounded with pets. Several studies reported that FLUFFY and FIO can not only win your heart, but can have a positive effect on your heart.

According to National Institutes of Health study, there were more than 400 adults suffering from heart attacks — and people who had pets survived successfully, regardless of the major heart attacks. In another survey, it was revealed that 240 married couples who had pets had no heart and blood pressure issues, and were never stressed in spite of their hectic schedule.

It is evident that your best companion can also improve your circulation. A survey on the cat owners found they have very less strokes if compared with the people who had no cats or any other kind of pets. A quick reduction in blood pressure happens when the patient gets an opportunity to interact with a companion, as mentioned in a study. It’s one of the best ways to deal with high blood pressure problems.

The “relaxation response” is mostly seen in people when they watch their fish swim, or hug a dog, an expert says.

At the end of a hectic day, won’t you love coming to a wagging tail and a forced cuddle? Is it okay to kiss your pet? A lot of experts say that letting your pets lick your face/mouth is not healthy. If you wish to kiss your pet, the top of his/her head is one of the best places to kiss. The rewards you get from your pet are a lot more than the risk of getting any kind of diseases.

Just like any other human beings, pets do carry certain kind of bacteria, viruses, parasites and fungi, so you should always have a habit of washing your hands after hugging your pets. This is very important for families who’ve children and those who’ve a weaker immune system.
